ALBUQUERQUE HIGH SCHOOL

MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT

Standards of Practice

  • The Syllabi:

    • Our syllabi for the four-core courses of the APS math requirements for graduation (Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II) were created using the CCSS standards. These syllabi help insure that our students have met all the standards by the time they finish high school. We as a department are committed to following our syllabi as closely as possible. In order for us to be successful in meeting the requirements of the syllabi, we agree to the following.

      • Keep to the schedule as closely as possible.

      • Movies, free days, and other non-syllabi related activities are strongly discouraged.  If a movie has been deemed curricularly appropriate, then an assignment must accompany it.

      • Please be mindful of the syllabi when absent. Detailed substitute lesson plans must be left. All department members should have an emergency substitute folder on file with the Department Chairs.

  • Classroom Expectations and Grading:

    • We agree to keep high standards and expectations for all students. One of the goals of our department is to insure that our students have good study habits. In order for us to be successful in meeting this goal, we agree to the following.

      • Homework should be required and some how graded.

      • The following grading scale should be followed.

        • Homework/Assignments/Notebooks 30%

        • Tests/Quizzes/Projects/Assessment 70%

        • Final Exams 15% - 20% of the semester total

      • In order to follow CCSS, students should be using a graphing utility in all core math courses.
